Automation & Nurture

How do I stop automation from going out to a specific lead?

There are two ways to stop automated messages for an individual lead — moving the pipeline card is the right first step, and DND is the hard stop when you need everything silenced immediately.

1
Move the pipeline card forward (the right first move)
Automation is tied to pipeline stage. Moving a lead out of Lead Received stops the nurture sequence. Drag to Hot Lead if they're interested but haven't booked. Use the calendar booking flow to move to Consult Booked or Procedure Booked. This is the correct way to stop automation for a lead you're actively working with.
2
Enable DND to stop all outbound communication immediately
If you need to stop automated messages right now — for example, the lead is upset or asked to be removed — open the contact record, scroll to the top of their profile, and toggle on Do Not Disturb (DND). This stops all automated texts and emails from going out to this person instantly.
3
Understand what DND actually blocks
DND stops ALL outbound communication — both automated and manual. When DND is on, you cannot send this person a text or email from RootLogic either. You can still call them on their phone directly. If you only need to stop automation (but still want to send manual texts), moving the card is better than enabling DND.
4
Add a note explaining why you stopped automation
After stopping automation — either by moving the card or enabling DND — open the contact's Notes tab and leave a quick note explaining the situation. Something like "Lead asked to be removed from texts 6/23, DND enabled." This protects you and your team if the person calls back or a colleague looks at the record later.
Important: DND is a blunt instrument — it blocks everything. Don't enable it by default for every lead you've spoken to; just move the pipeline card. Reserve DND for situations where the person has specifically asked to stop all contact or is expressing frustration about the messages.
