What happens to automation if I drag a lead to Consult Booked instead of booking through the calendar?

Dragging a card to Consult Booked creates four simultaneous problems — understanding exactly what breaks helps you see why the rule matters.

1
The patient gets no confirmation text or email
The confirmation text ("You're booked for your consultation on [date]...") and confirmation email fire when a calendar booking event is created — not when a card moves columns. Drag the card, and the patient gets nothing. They showed up for a consult expecting a reminder sequence that never ran, or they forgot because nothing confirmed the time.
2
The pre-consult reminder sequence never starts
RootLogic sends automated reminder texts 48 hours and 24 hours before the consult, plus a day-of reminder. These run off the calendar event. No calendar event means no reminders. Practices that drag instead of book see higher no-show rates because the automated follow-through never happened.
3
The $500 conversion value is not reported to Google or Meta
The offline conversion upload that sends a $500 signal to Google Ads and Meta is triggered by the booking event, not by the card position. A dragged card looks like a Consult Booked on the board but sends zero data to the ad platforms. Over time, missed conversion signals cause the algorithm to make worse bidding decisions — it thinks fewer consults are being booked than actually are.
4
The opportunity value displayed on the card may not update
The dollar value on the card (Lead Received = $50, Consult Booked = $500) is also tied to the booking flow. A manually dragged card may keep showing the old value, making your pipeline revenue reporting inaccurate. Your account manager reviews this data — inaccurate values give a false picture of practice performance.
Important: If you just dragged a card to Consult Booked and realize the mistake, don't panic — but act immediately. Drag it back to Lead Received, then go to the contact record and create the appointment through the Appointments tab. The automation will fire correctly when the real booking is created.
