How do I stop all outbound communication to a contact?
Enabling DND (Do Not Disturb) on the contact record is the single action that stops all outbound texts and emails — automated and manual — immediately.
1
Open the contact record and enable the DND toggle
Click Contacts in the left sidebar, search for the person, and open their record. In the right-side contact details panel, find the Do Not Disturb toggle and switch it on. This takes effect immediately — no save button needed.
2
Confirm what DND stops
With DND on, RootLogic will block: the 45-day automated nurture sequence, any bulk text or email broadcasts, appointment reminder texts, and any manual texts or emails you or a colleague attempt to send from the Conversations tab. The contact will receive nothing from the system.
3
Note that phone calls are still possible
DND does not block inbound or outbound phone calls. If you need to also prevent staff from calling (for example, a contact who has asked to be left alone entirely), there is no automatic block for calls — you'll need to add a note to the contact record instructing your team not to call and rely on that note to enforce it.
4
Add a note documenting why communication was stopped
Write a note on the contact record immediately after enabling DND — include the date, who made the request, and what they said: "DND enabled 6/23/26 — patient called and requested no further texts or emails. Not interested at this time." This protects your practice and informs future staff.
Important: If the contact has a consult already booked, enabling DND will also stop their appointment reminder texts. Verify they've already received their confirmation details before you flip the toggle, or call them to confirm the appointment manually.
Pro tip: If the contact asked only to stop texts (not emails), DND is broader than you need. In that case, just note the preference in the contact record — their STOP reply (if they sent one) already removed them from SMS automations. Reserve DND for contacts who want all digital outreach stopped.
